Less Restrictions, More Guidance: Athlete Spotlight – Ruby Hung

Athlete Bright Spot: Ruby Hung
Less restrictions, More guidance
By Coach Drew Hernandez

Our athlete of the week this week is Ruby.

For the past 3 months – Ruby has been working with me in hybrid coaching.

One of the bigger fears people have when it comes to working on their nutrition is the fear of restriction. The FOMO (Fear-of-missing-out) can be tremendous when someone starts improving their nutrition.

…what if I can never drink Boba again? For how long?

…but I love snacks? Snacks are life…

I digress.

Ruby sat down with me and expressed how she wanted to lose some weight and gain a better relationship with food. We reviewed her goals and set out some short term as well as long term goals. We did small things like eating breakfast and having weekly check-ins.

“I don’t feel restricted, I feel great!”

Because Ruby was not a early eater #teamnobreakfast – we helped her realize that it unwittingly caused her to be a late night snacker. #teamsnacks

One of the things I wanted her to understand is that we do our bodies a disservice when we stop eating throughout the day. Sometimes the journey of recomposition can look like eating more as opposed to eating less.

Ruby has lost 9 pounds⬇️ of Body weight and has lost a total of 10.5 lbs⬇️ of body fat since March 2021! To say I’m proud is an understatement.

Before:
❌No direction and often guessing what is right or wrong
❌Felt alone in making food decisions/Repeated cycles of guilt

Now:
✅ Clarity in food related decisions
✅ Feels like she has a team that supports her

Ruby has been working so hard and I am so thankful to walk by her side through her journey🥳!! If you see her during class please give a huge congratulations. We are not done here!🏽🏽
