Introducing the Reason Fitness Team

Meet the fitness experts ready to help you achieve your fitness goals and your potential.

Our Founder

Peter Randsmith

If you’ve ever browsed the internet looking for workout advice, you know how difficult it is to identify programs that work. Even experienced gym-goers get caught up in workouts that promise massive gains in six weeks or less.

That’s why our gym is so valuable for so many people. Instead of doing the research yourself, we’ve done that part of the work for you. All you need to do is show up and give each workout your all.

Some people get their motivation from slow and steady improvement, while others thrive on competition. No matter what your style, we offer a space where you can see results more quickly than other gym routines, as long as you put in the hard work.

What sets CrossFit apart from other workouts and gyms is that we believe in combining strength with endurance for maximum performance. We want you to get strong and capable and see the difference functional strength can make in your life. You’ll build confidence and learn to persist toward your goals both at the gym and outside it

Our gym combines every aspect of exercise science, ensuring that you get the results you want. We offer proven workouts to build energy and endurance. We combine that with sensible eating plans that help you hit that sweet spot where you lose fat while you gain muscle.

We want our gym to be a thriving like-minded community of fitness enthusiasts that support and encourage each other. We aim to do this by combining individual training with group classes of people at your level and coaches that understand your particular needs and goals.

Luke Karsana

Head Coach & Program Director

Luke began Crossfit when he first heard about it from an old football friend of his. Once getting to know more and more about it, he had found it value in bettering a person's quality of life, including his own. As an overweight and potential diabetic child Luke knew he would have to make a change in lifestyle and Crossfit fit perfectly with him.

One of his first workouts was “Cindy”-consisting of pull-ups, pushups, and air squats. After struggling to get through the simple workout, it helped define where his level of fitness stood and wanted to improve it from then on. Luke has a heart for Crossfit and its values through community and is currently attending Azusa Pacific University to complete his B.S. in Applied Exercise Science.

BETHANY CHAN

Movement Specialist, Doctor of Physical Therapy

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Beth first found fitness when her dad took her running every week on the par course in Redwood Shores. He taught her how to do push-ups and pull-ups. In first grade, her favorite playground activity was swinging on the monkey bars. She loved all sports growing up, especially volleyball.

Beth’s college friend Tim Chan, now husband (and current Reason comp director), introduced CrossFit to her in 2012. It was so reminiscent of her high school basketball conditioning and running the par course with her dad that she was hooked.
A decade after getting her first L1 CrossFit cert and 3 years of physical therapy doctorate later, Beth’s following in her dad’s footsteps by teaching other people how to do pull-ups and push-ups, and how to move correctly. She provides elegant solutions to vexing problems like pain and injury, and still swings on bars for fun.

Ismael Garcia

Story Teller

Ismael (ish for short) born and raised in EAST LA, I'm the youngest of 3 brothers. Fitness is important to me because it's given me confidence in myself. Growing up I was always the chubby kid that got picked last for any sport. When I got to my heaviest weight I decided to make a change for myself I wanted to feel good look good and above all feel healthy.

It’s been a long road of learning and still learning till this day. I’ve put in countless hours to make the change and has made me the person I am today. I am proud to refer to myself as an athlete something I never associated with myself. I love helping others and pushing them to do the hard work because I know the struggle, I’ve always been humble being on both sides of this journey so I’m always willing to help anyone and everyone to my best ability. Along the way I picked up on photography after a friend of mine gave me the push by simply telling me “you have a great eye for this” and that’s what pushed me to invest in this hobby over the years it’s definitely grown into a passion that has kept my mind busy wanting to learn more and more and share with everyone my vision of what I see. I love to capture the raw effort and moment of an athlete to display the hard work that one cannot see when going through it. The best joy I get out of it is the reaction to my work the wow’s and oohs and smiles make it all worth it.

Edward Masuda

Coach

Hi, my name is Edward Masuda. I am from El Monte CA and graduating from Arcadia high in 2017. I am currently a fourth year undergraduate student at the University of La Verne studying Kinesiology with a focus on Strength and Conditioning.

I grew up playing sports my whole life, primarily football when I got to high school and was given the opportunity to play at the collegiate level at La Verne my freshman year. I got really into powerlifting when I was in high school then my senior year I met Eric and Luke as my strength and conditioning coaches who introduced me to CrossFit and Olympic lifting. Since then I’ve been hooked on learning and understanding how the body works and how it can improve. Fitness is important to me because it helps improve your quality of life. For me personally after working out I have so much more energy and I have a happier mood. I am able to feel good and move well.

Benjamin Lee

Coach

Ben's fitness journey began in college when he decided to transform his slender frame and delve into the world of health and wellness. The journey was initially daunting, stepping into the gym without a roadmap. Yet, with time, dedication, and now two years of expert guidance at Reason, Ben has not only transformed his physique but also his understanding of the profound impact a coach can have on an individual's health journey.

With a nursing degree and a CrossFit Level 1 certification under his belt, Ben has decided to pivot from the world of nursing to pursue his newfound passion in fitness. What drives him is not the pursuit of becoming the biggest or strongest guy in the gym, but rather, the philosophy of functional movement and general fitness. For Ben, fitness is about meeting people where they are in life and providing the guidance and support they need to achieve their goals.

When Ben isn’t in the gym, he’s fully immersed in family life. Playing with his kids and keeping up with their boundless energy not only brings him immense joy but also fuels his desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Ben draws inspiration from fellow gym-goers, like James, a 70-year-old who moves with the vigor of someone half his age. It’s these connections and success stories that reinforce Ben’s belief in the power of fitness.

What Ben brings to the table is more than just experience and knowledge; it’s a genuine passion for helping others succeed. Being on the front lines, face-to-face with those he coaches, and being part of their success stories is what fuels him. Ben understands the emotional roller coaster that comes with striving towards and achieving fitness goals. It’s these emotions – the highs of success and the joys of being part of someone else’s success story – that make the fitness journey thrilling and contagious. Ben is eager to share this excitement with others and be a guiding force in their journey to health and confidence.

Josh Lo

Movement Specialist, Doctor of Physical Therapy

My journey as a physical therapist started out as an 8 year old club swimmer in Glendale, CA. By the age of 10, I was swimming 2 practices a day - up to 5 hours a day in the pool. It was then that I decided that I wanted to swim in a Division 1 NCAA program.

When I was 14, I partially tore one of his rotator cuff muscles in a race. I bounced around multiple different physical therapists who prescribed me the same rotator cuff strengthening program. 6 weeks later, I was still having pain in my shoulder and had not returned to the water yet.

In a last ditch effort, my parents and I reached out to a swimming-specific physical therapist in Santa Clara who had worked with the USA national and olympic teams. He helped me with my shoulder and I went on to swim for UC San Diego.

It was then that I realized that it took someone who understood me and my journey to help me solve my shoulder pain. That is what I want to do for you: help you solve problems to reach your goals.

Eric Freedom

Founder

I love what I get to do every day. I find CrossFit to be an incredible framework for constant self-improvement. It's written in its culture. As we seek to not only change what our bodies look like and push ourselves to levels we never thought attainable, we actually begin the journey of mastery.

Here’s the thing: not everyone has the talent to be a professional athlete. I learned that first hand as my obsession with training grew. However, everyone has the potential to be a top performer relative to their individual goals. CrossFit has created a canvas that allows us to create, experiment, and even make mistakes. I love to be able to take what I am continually learning and help people chase their goals and realize their capabilities.I have trained collegiate and high school athletes, project managers, lawyers, teachers, law enforcers, and soccer moms. They all show up for various reasons: to look better, to feel better, to have more energy, etc. We are all essentially chasing self-improvement. I have also put in the hours and chipped away to become a mediocre athlete after starting off as a very terrible one. My pursuit of excellence is never-ending, and I want to work with those that are willing to work towards the same.
