This lesson is a lesson that has always been a timeless one.
In the journey of health and fitness, it is often easy to compare our journey to the journey of others.
“If ______ can do it, then why can’t I?”
“Why is it so easy for ______ to lose weight but not for myself?”
“If only I could just be as strong as ______, I’d be happy.”
And the danger in playing this game is that it’s a game that never ends. The reality is that we are all a work in progress BUT here are a few tips you can take to combat the voice that says you’re less than:
Celebrate Yourself
→ What have you done well? What are you proud of accomplishing in the past 3, 6, 12 months? What is something you do now for your health that you never thought you’d do 2, 5, 10 years ago? This is the best place to start because you need to give credit where credit is due but it can also be the hardest part because oftentimes we don’t make enough time to celebrate our successes. If you can’t or are unable to celebrate your successes you’ll get trapped in the vacuum of work, work, work– you lose sight of the WHY. Remember that everything you do serves a purpose and every step you take forward is worthy of celebrating.
Establish A Goal
→ What’s next for you? Now that you’ve established what you’re proud of, what do you want to accomplish (or continue accomplishing)? It could be a routine, getting to bed by a certain time, or building muscle– whatever it is, make it SMART. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time oriented. If you have no idea where to start, schedule a time to sit down with one of our coaches and we are more than happy to help. The whole point here is to figure out what’s next!
Find The Right Community
→ Who are you doing this with? This is the final step in your way out of the comparison game. If your goal is important to you, do your best friends, family, or close work colleagues know? Do they support your journey? What does it look like to ask for their support? Do you need guidance?
Remember: The grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener wherever you water it.
Happy Monday. Let’s get after it this week Reason Community!
